COFFEE Physics

Coming Soon....

I am in the process of writing a short script that will explore the many different sides of science when brewing a nice cup'a joe. Think "Adam Ruins Everything" meets "Bill Nye the Science Guy".

Coffee Rings and Edge Evaporation

Something as omnipresent to our daily lives as brewing coffee comes with loads of scientific inquiry.  Why do coffee rings form? Why do we grind the coffee or heat up water? This page Seeks to explore some of the physics to these topics (and maybe even delve into some other sciences! Chemistry in particular).  And not only that, but I will seek to connect some principles from making a cup of joe to other interesting topics.

As I add content to this page, please enjoy a time-lapse video of a filter drying. (And take noticed to the behavior of the coffee stain in the filter.)

Much of these thoghts have been inspired by some research from Professor Syd Nagel at the University of Chicago.  Here is an article that talks about some of that research:

So many implications to pursue.  SCIENCE
